After LA, NYC, We Need to Be Next in Regulating AI
A movement is growing to protect students from artificial intelligence from coast to coast. From Los Angeles to New York City, school districts are enacting moratoriums and regulations on generative AI in schools. This is for good reason. There is endless research on the negative impacts of generative AI use on students. It has negative cognitive, emotional, and social effects, especially on young students. It is great that LA and NYC have placed regulations on artificial intelligence.
San Francisco cannot be left behind! As a city on the cutting edge of AI development, we need to be on the cutting edge of AI regulations as well. Especially for students and youth, who are some of the most vulnerable among us. Those in the tech industry are the most familiar with the ways in which AI can be harmful. That is why we need to be next in the list of cities that have enacted a moratorium on AI usage in schools.
