Why Public Schools Matter
Public schools are the cornerstone of our democracy. They are the places where students are empowered with literacy and critical thinking skills, the skills they need to succeed professionally, as well as those that enable them to live fulfilling lives! Public schools also lift up entire communities, functioning as centers of community life, health centers, voting centers, and more.
Public schools provide these benefits here in San Francisco. They are one of the last sites of truly democratic public resources and they must be protected. That’s why we oppose the school closures being forwarded by members of the board. Our communities need and deserve more investment and more resources, not less. Our schools should be fully funded, not just for the health of our students, but for our entire communities!
