Students Before Screens
Earlier this year, LAUSD passed a resolution to reduce screen time in classrooms starting the 2026-2027 school year. The district calls for a new era of technology, different from one of reliance during the COVID-19 pandemic, which switched traditional learning out of classrooms and towards devices. This resolution calls to ensure that screen time be based on students’ grade levels while also accounting for the needs of students with disabilities.
True equity is not achieved by simply providing more technology. It requires fully funded schools, adequate resources, and well-supported educators. When classrooms lack counselors, nurses, librarians, and smaller class sizes, screens are often used to fill gaps they were never meant to replace. Our students deserve robust learning environments that truly put students before screens.
