Silicon Valley Parents are Fighting for to Protect Students from Big Tech
Silicon Valley parents, many of whom themselves work or invest in tech, are standing up against AI and big tech in our schools. The parents who have the closest relationship with big tech companies are the ones fighting most ardently against it, so everyone needs to join in the fight now to protect our students from AI and big tech. San Francisco cannot be left behind in the dust while Silicon Valley parents successfully fight for protections for their students. San Francisco students deserve to be protected too.
We must stand up for our students and protect them from the harms of AI and excessive screen time. There are negative social and emotional ramifications of AI and excessive screen usage in schools, not to mention cognitive disengagement. The parents who are closest with AI and big technology companies know this, and that is why they want to protect their own children from these negative ramifications. All students deserve to have champions in their corner to protect them if big tech companies won’t. One of the signs at the Palo Alto Unified School District meeting drives the point home: “Nobody remembers their favorite app, everybody remembers their favorite teacher.”
