Administrators (and Teachers) are Fed Up With SFUSD
San Francisco Unified School District principals and administrators are planning actions in protest of their treatment by the school district. They are also considering a potential strike vote. What are the conditions that have brought them to this point? Some principals are required to double as school nurses, they have a great deal heavier workload, and they’re still waiting on raises promised last year. On top of that, Superintendent Maria Su is not handling their discontent well.
Su has threatened principals and administrators planning to walk out with legal action, effectively escalating the conflict. They also moved the internal meeting where protest actions were planned to the district’s downtown headquarters. The headquarters is much more visible and on a busier street than the previous location of the meeting, meaning that any protest will garner a wider audience. Additionally, the teachers union and other labor groups are considering joining the administrators union. All in all, no one’s happy. The next question is what is going to change from here?
