Robot Teachers Won’t Save Education, They’ll Destroy It
In a time where education is at the forefront of budget cuts due to the current administration, MAGA conservatives push for an alternative to teachers. This is because MAGA conservatives believe that public school educators are an attack on education, teaching the youth empathy and critical thinking. Despite these characteristics being crucial for the upbringing of children in the education system, MAGA conservatives fear that teachers will raise children to go against and challenge the GOP’s conservative ideas. To avoid this so-called “attack on the government,” MAGA conservatives propose robot teachers as an effort to better educate children.
Our teachers are already underpaid for the work that they do and instead of paying them higher salaries, leaders would rather spend the money into making these robot teachers. By replacing teachers with robots, we are directly threatening the public education system and the imperative role our teachers play in society. Furthermore, replacing teachers with robots will also create mass job cuts that will severely affect teachers across the country. Additionally, students will also feel the effects of AI in the classroom, given that AI is unable to replicate the human emotion that helps students understand their studies and feel a sense of community. Our kids need connection, guidance, and real relationships with educators who help them grow, think critically, and learn how to be a part of a community.
