California Legislators Ensure Demand that Students Are Taught by Teachers, Not AI

California legislators just approved a bill that requires students to be taught by humans, not artificial intelligence. Assembly bill 2148 requires school staff to be “natural humans,” and not AI. The bill initially included regulation surrounding the use of AI in K-12 classrooms and higher education, but was scaled back.

This legislation is the bare minimum that our students deserve. The power of education is not limited to the facts that students learn. It is about their connection with trusted teachers, ability to navigate conflict, and socioemotional development that only stems from person to person connection. If we truly want to protect and prioritize our kids over Big Tech’s profits, we must regulate how tech and AI show up in our classrooms.
