SFUSD ‘central office’ layoffs would actually eliminate on-site school workers!

The San Francisco Unified School District promised to keep cuts away from students, but yet again, school staff positions are on the chopping block. SFUSD says it’s cutting 205 central office positions to help address the $113M deficit — in reality, these cuts impact those who work directly with students! These cuts include a special education teacher, school nurse, and career technical education coordinator at John ‘O Connell High School. Vulnerable schools like John ‘O Connell are those being hit the hardest, even though students there need the most resources.

None of these administrative cuts should come at the expense of students. Equitable public education means providing students with the resources, staff, and opportunities they need to succeed, not slashing their schooling because of ‘the bottom line.’ In the face of massive federal defunding of public education and the expansion of school privatization, SFUSD needs to step up in defense of our public school students! Stop the cuts, stop the closures!
